If you’re wondering what this site is all about, well, I’ll tell you.

I created this site as a dedicated outdoor, shooting, hunting, and tactical gear review hub. As I started my blog over at www.manualofman.com, I realized that I really had a passion for evaluating and reviewing gear for other people. This is probably because I love reading reviews too. I don’t think I can buy a stick a gum without checking a review on it…. Just ask my girlfriend.

Moreover, I work in research and development for a day job. So you could say, I’m pretty good at “looking into things”. I love to learn and expand my knowledge of pretty much anything if given the opportunity. I want to transfer this passion and design for learning to other people in a concrete form. Er, digital form.

My loss of time spent looking into the best type of fly line for fishing New York’s Salmon River is your gain. My endless hours trying to decide which Arc’teryx base layer is best for hiking to Machu Picchu in September are boiled down to minutes for you. Stormcrow Group will mainly be authored by myself; however, I plan to include guest posts from several friends who are knowledgeable in the areas this site covers. This might include a hunting buddy, a software engineer, a Crossfit guru, a medical student, or a former-Airborne paratrooper. So stay tuned.

This site is going to be one of the leading gear review sites on the internet. I guarantee it. And if not, you bet your ass I’ll be researching how to make so!

Most of the reviews here are on products purchased off my own dime. Or borrowed from a friend. If I receive a piece of equipment from a manufacturer for review, I’ll be sure to disclose this information outright. But don’t misconstrue that as an admittance that the review will always be good. I pride myself on giving an honest, first-hand review on anything in a language that anyone can read. Just because I bought it with my own money or it was given to me for free doesn’t automatically make it good. I’ll always highlight the good, the bad, and the crappy.

Why the name Stormcrow Group?

I chose the name because storm crow are traditionally the harbingers of news and informers of impending storms or disasters. Considered widely to be the most intelligent of all birds, crows have adapted and survived in almost every climate and continent. They are also steeply rooted in mythologies across the world, from Norse mythology in Europe to Buddhism and Hinduism in Asian to Native American spirituality in the Americas.

I’ll be perfectly honest, there is advertising and there are affiliate links to other vendors on this site. I’m currently one of the many million college grads that is mired with student loan payments. I created this site both to fuel my passion for the outdoors and also help pay off some of those bills. I do earn a commission off certain sales by you guys clicking my links, but I encourage you to shop wherever you wish! Currently, I have affiliate partnerships with Amazon, Moosejaw, Left Lane Sports, The Clymb, and Brownell’s. These are all places I’ve shopped with personally and chose them because I was happy with their service.
